2012 NATIONAL CENTER FOR CREATIVE AGING

ARTS & AGING CORE TRAINING FOR TEACHING ARTISTS

February 21 & 22, 2012

at the Arts Council of Princeton

Interested in the field of creative aging? Want to learn how the arts can engage older adults through life review, reminiscence and personal story? And help advance a national curriculum for arts programming directed to seniors and their caregivers?

On the evening of Tuesday, February 21st and all day on Wednesday on February 22nd, the Arts Council of Princeton will be one of only three sites in the US to present this training for teaching artists in arts & aging in its 2012 pilot phase. Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, and organized by the National Center for Creative Aging, the 2012 NCCA Arts & Aging Core Training aims to impart the use of life stories by artists when working with older adults and their caregivers. A follow-up session will take place on Wednesday, April 4th, to review post-training experiences. Please see attached document for more details.

A public lecture by Susan Perlstein, founder of the National Center for Creative Aging and Elders Share the Arts, kicks off the training on Tuesday evening, February 21st. The lecture is free but registration is required. Please contact Andrea Honoré at ahonore@artscouncilofprinceton.org, or 609-924-8777 to register for the public lecture.

The training itself will take place on Wednesday, February 22nd. There is limited space in the training sessions, so preference will be given to artists who are currently working with seniors, are professionally trained as artists, and who have substantial teaching experience.

A letter of support from a senior center, residential facility, or organization serving seniors where you work should accompany your application, which can be found on the website of the Arts Council of Princeton: www.artscouncilofprinceton.org, under “Call for Artists.” Applications to attend the NCCA Art & Aging Core Training for Teaching Artists are due by January 15, 2012.
